I respect the fact that you have the right to express your feeling through your blog but, i am disappointed to see your definition of "Shiasm". Its very poor and thoroughly incorrect. Karbala does not define Shiasm, this sect was formed right after when Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) left this world. Shia are people who rejected Khilaafat and became followers of Imam Ali (A.S).. this is the simplest true definition I can give as a Shia. Karbala does play important role in our belief but thats not Shiasm is all about.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, I liked your definition of "Mullah" :)
Thanks for your comment. The political differences of 1400 years ago are not relevant today, although they are a permanent part of history.
ReplyDeleteThe Faith was completed and perfected during the life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Ali bin Abi Talib never claimed to have received divine revelation. He, like Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman assumed the role of a pious and just administrator during his reign. Imamat only existed in the minds of Shian Ali who thought that the head of the Islamic state should also be a spiritual guide. In modern times that idea is counterproductive.
Ali bin Abi Talib was the first man who actually grew up in Islam and, was very close to the Prophet in his life and was advocated by the Prophet himself as a role model for the young (which applies to all sects).
Apart from what goes in their minds, todays Shias are only identifiable by their insistence on ethnic identity and annual expressions of intense mass grief and regret in Muharram.
You are welcome to discuss the matter further either through this blog or directly.
Again sir, with all due respect, what you said is simply superficial. I am not against your understanding of Shiasm because its your personal problem.. but presenting your view as a "Definition" of shiasm bothers me. specially "regret" part which is completely absurd! doesnt make any sense. I don't know why would you think of something like that? Shias have this "jazba" that if Karbala was to happen today..each and everyone of us would be the part of it and give our lives for Islam.. and some of that is reflected in the month of moharram, Unity. Now i do not understand what you really meant by "regret". We have none.
ReplyDeleteI think that this subject is extremely debatable and great care and thought should be put before making any judgement. But if someone has any doubt on his mind than i recommend consulting a good scholar and read authentic books before making anything up.
Let me see if you understand me better if I reword the statement using more words.
ReplyDeleteImam Hussain had nearly two dozen step brothers and sisters. For some reason or the other, none of them accompanied the Imam in his journey to Karbala. When the news of the martyrdom came, they mourned and wailed and cursed themselves for not accompanying the Imam on his mission. They started the custom of Muharram to educate the new generations so that if a future Imam (genuine one) invites them to a noble mission they would accompany him not afraid of loss of business or life.
The message of Karbala (Break but do not bend before wrong) is for all mankind.
Do you want something else to be defined?
